Blog #4: Frankenstein

Victor get so caught up in his work, he lost all communication with his dear family back in Geneva. He is very independent, but everyone needs to have words with their family. Starting to sprout the idea of the living dead strays him away from the chemistry life style he has been living. I find Victor somewhat demented, not talking to his father or future wife. The monster is now being drafted waiting to be awoken by Victor. I wonder why he had the interest of bringing back the dead. Is he that depressed of his mother? Does he feel like he needs new friends? I wonder what his mindset can be.

Blog #3: Frankenstein

I was very sad once Victor’s mother, Caroline, passed away. Catching scarlet fever from her niece, Elizabeth, who has a successful recovery, seemed really unfortunate. When it says she caught the fever on the third day, I thought it to be an allusion to God rising on the third day, but I might be wrong who knows. And the sentence, “she attended her sickbed” has a double meaning. Caroline could be attending the sickbed of Elizabeth, or her own sick bed. I thought it to be pretty interesting. Also the mom wanted them to get married, which is a strong thought before someone dies. Off to collage in Ingolstatd, where his parents wanted him to study, where he soon met his mentors.

Blog #2: Frankenstein

In the first chapter everything happened so quickly. I find it really weird that Victor could start having feelings for his adopted sister, but it adds to the interesting story. Victor than discovers his love for Alchemy, by reading books on it. Leading to his interests in creating the monster in future times, he observes his first lighting storm and is fascinated by it. At that young age you’d expect someone to be terrified in the thought of getting closer to you, but Victor was in a trance, enjoying the wrath of the gods.

Blog #1: Frankenstein

I found it very odd to start a book off with letters from the initial author. At first I didn’t understand the purpose of having 2 authors, but after reading the second letter from Walton to his sister, I now have a sense that The Monster and Walton will be parallels somehow. I am excited to hear the journey of Victor Frankenstein.
